Creating a robust SEL and academic learning environment hinges on fostering relationships between students and teachers, and between students. Expanding teaching practices to integrate SEL with reading and literacy in all subject areas and grade levels is vital for student growth and academic achievement. One key example of this practice is using the ExC-ELL Partner Reading activities for both newcomers and English speakers. Incorporating SEL checkpoints like Student Interaction, Voice, and Reflection (see graphic below) ensures authentic learning and a highly engaging learning environment.
